Plastic Free July is an initiative which started in 2011 by a group of engaged citizens of Australia who care about our planet and want to encourage others to reduce their eco footprint. The challenge aims to create awareness of the amount of plastic we use and dispose of. The ultimate goal of Plastic Free July is to help us caring citizens refuse the use of single plastics such as straws, plastic cutlery, plastic bags, disposable cups and plastic water bottles.
Last year, I was a fellow participant of Plastic Free July and although I had prepared my reusable bags and thermos, I was far from ready and reality hit me pretty hard. Plastic is everywhere. It has become such a big part of our everyday life, we have stopped paying attention. This has to stop! Taking part of this challenge helped me be aware of the amount of plastic we use and realize how my little gestures can go a long way. Therefore, in 2018, I want to not only go all the way with the challenge, but I want to encourage others to take the challenge. Creating awareness helps our planet so much because the more we are making a difference, the more significant the results.
Throughout the month of July, I will be posting a series of articles to help you be part of the solution by saying no to plastic. #choosetorefuse
